A leisurely summer holiday sunbathing on a Southern European beach may soon become difficult. You might not be able to travel to nearby places, so your suitcase could get enormous, or you might not be able to go on holiday until autumn. Your outfits will change too: T‑shirts with sweat stains left with no time to dry, oversized suitcases, or setting off in autumn wearing a sweater with flip‑flops.

There is a brand that presented this imagining as a collection at Copenhagen 2027 Spring/Summer Fashion Week. It's Sson, led by Swedish designer Yulia Kjellsson. While Copenhagen Fashion Week promotes sustainability as an important value, Sson was the only one to address climate change directly. "Watching 20th-century travel ads and resort fashion editorials, I thought about how the desire to travel might change in the future. It's a truly serious crisis." The piles of sand on the show stage were mixed with trash. The models' outfits looked like glamorous holiday wear, but in the details they were full of lived-in reality.

Clothes that look good even when you're sweaty may become more important than garments that prevent sweating. We'll need ways to stay stylish while coping with heat, humidity, and sweat. We can't stop the planet from getting hotter right away, but at least we can change our mindset about enjoying summer. Instead of struggling to hide sweat, accept it as part of summer. For the rest of the summer, it's okay to be a little wetter and a little more disheveled.
