Horses, knits, and disco fever were key themes of the Stella McCartney collection. Set against Paris's Bois de Boulogne (Le Bois de Boulogne), it presented silhouettes of independent, confident women. Dominating the runway was an aura that felt like it came from the 1980s yet was utterly modern. Mugler's Miguel Castro Freitas also drew inspiration from the rough 1980s. He paired leather shirts with patch pockets, long leather coats with exaggerated shoulder lines, and silhouettes that unabashedly revealed BDSM nuances with belted pencil skirts. The return of 1980s style shows women's power — and the particular toughness of women — more firmly than ever.
